More ways to treat yourself in The County

Nancy's Insider Tips

Nancy and her husband Frank moved from Montreal to The County eight years ago to refurbish and open the 1850s farmhouse that is now The Wilfrid, a boutique Bed & Breakfast that delivers the luxury of detail oriented service. Nancy, also an accomplished artist, is a member of The Prince Edward County Arts Council, and is working on a portrait series of PEC residents that will have an exhibition in 2025.

What is your favourite part about running a Bed & Breakfast?
As a chef and designer duo, we've created a multi-sensory stay experience that focuses on creative cuisine and wellness, and we're constantly pushing the envelope on what a Bed & Breakfast can be. For example, instead of traditional breakfast fare, every morning our guests are treated to a 4-5 course brunch full of sustainably sourced ingredients and imaginative cuisine—probably one of the most memorable meals you'll ever have before noon!

What are your insider tips to help people have a great trip to The County?
The pace in The County is much slower and that's a good thing! Remember to take a breath, slow down and take it all in. There's no reason to rush or try to fill your days with bookings and activities - winter walks on the beach, people watching, and doing a lot of "nothing" is also really great when you're here. You can always come back and do more next time you visit!

Prince Edward County's only luxury boutique hotel is located right on Picton Main Street. Even if you are not guests of the hotel ('cause you booked your stay with us at The Wilfrid;) we recommend you pop in for an afternoon coffee and pastry in their sunny front lobby or a digestif at their Amaro cocktail bar. You can also book a massage in their spa for that extra bit of pampering.

Don't miss The Annex, The Royal's exhibition space, curated by Toronto's MCA Gallery, for an intimate art experience. Or, treat yourself to a massage at their spa for that extra bit of pampering.

7 Paul Street, Picton, Ontario, Canada, K0K 2T0

Get your game on or practice that swing for the upcoming season in this fully automated virtual golf space. Book your session on their website, get your code and have a private golf session, clubs included, in this newly opened Picton space.

The Golf Studio is open 24/7, and is a great late night activity to burn off those dinner calories.

4

222 Main Street West, Picton, ON, Canada, K0K 2T0

Start your evening off at Russ & Co—one of the best-looking cocktail bars we've ever set eyes on—for one of their signature drinks and then shuffle over to Bocado for an evening of Spanish shared plates.

5

252 Picton Main Street, Canada

Practically next door to The Russ & Co, Bocado is a tapas restaurant that pairs nicely after a cocktail. Bocado has wowed diners with its locally-inspired Spanish menu. Be sure to check out their market & bottle shop for snacks, olive oil, and everything you need to get started with your own paella at home (including paella pans).

Get a seat at the bar at both places to get in on all the action and chat it up with the staff and patrons.

With a strong focus on sustainability from every level, this is definitely not your average bed and breakfast! Your stay includes all the luxury amenities of a boutique hotel and a farm-to-table brunch each morning (get ready for one of the most memorable meals you'll ever have before noon!).

Day 2 - 58.5km

This modern art gallery features some incredible work by reputable Canadian artists. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Explore the sculpture garden which has over 60 sculptures on exhibit each year.

Come back to explore the sculpture garden in the warmer months. Over 60 sculptures are on exhibit each year.

This Bloomfield spa offers both classic and medical aesthetics. Located in a beautiful red brick Victorian, the luminous space is as welcoming as the staff.

Give your winter skin a boost of hydration and that healthy glow with one of their Hydrafacial treatments.

3

106 Bloomfield Main Street, Canada

This farm-to-table Bloomfield restaurant cooks everything on an open flame. Chef Hidde's flavour combinations are always spot on and even though the aged beef on display may seem like the best bet, in our opinion, the seafood and vegetable offerings are the stars of the show here.

Ask for the table by the wood stove, you'll enjoy the warm crackling fire and have a great view of the open kitchen's hearth.

4

1375 Royal Road, Milford, Ontario, Canada, K0K 2P0

As the evening approaches, return to The Wilfrid and experience the comfort of being at home in a setting worlds away from the everyday hustle. Relax at one of their outdoor lounge areas for some star gazing or curl up with a book by the fireplace in the library.

Day 3 - 20.9km

1112 Royal Road, Milford , ONT , Canada, K0K 2P0

Exultet Estates is a short 15-minute walk from The Wilfrid and produces estate-grown, award-winning wines. This family-owned winery prides itself on its Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Vidal vines to produce some very classic wines. They also have a selection of wines under the name Knucklehead (a term of endearment for their three grown kids) these are fun, accessible wines. The tasting room is located steps from the vineyard and in the warmer months, you can grab a seat in the shade of one of the property's mature trees to sip a glass, listen to some live jazz or simply enjoy the bucolic setting.

Reach out to winemaker, Gerry Spinosa, ahead of time to schedule a private VIP barrel tasting and tour of the facilities. This unique experience will please any wine enthusiast and is a true expression of Prince Edward County terroir.

2

7 Elizabeth Street, Canada

Celebrating local ingredients unpretentiously, this Picton wine bar has a vibe we can definitely get behind. Miles, the owner, pumps out stellar small plates from behind the tiny bar kitchen, to accompany his thoughtfully curated wine list while Margot his partner in work and life works the room. Proof that talent comes in all shapes and sizes in Prince Edward County.
