Arts on Main Gallery

A bit of history.…..The idea of Arts on Main Gallery had its birth in 2005 when Alan Gratias, a County resident, purchased the Roblin building that sits at the corner of Ross and Main Street, Picton.

Formerly the showroom for Roblin Motors, it had been closed for years. Working with two friends from the advertising world in Toronto, Terry Williams and Ann Wood, the three became the founders and champions of Arts on Main Gallery. Terry became the Founding Chair; Ann recruited and selected talented County artists; Alan refurbished the old heritage building with new floor windows, lighting and all that was needed to transform the old car showroom into a bright, cheerful gallery….a showroom for local artistic endeavours.

Arts on Main Gallery (AOMG) officially opened on May 18, 2007 with twenty-seven County artists showcasing their work. This gallery became one of the few cooperative galleries in southeastern Ontario and one devoted to showing work only by local artists.

Many local artists have been full-time members, guest artists and student artists at the Gallery. Many have come and gone and come back again as their lives changed. So many have given of themselves, their skills and knowledge to build a dynamic cooperative artist gallery.

In the cooperative model, members share the space, costs and responsibilities…and everyone is responsible for making the gallery a success: staffing the gallery, sharing the tasks, jobs are rotated and everyone is committed to selling all artists work, not just their own.

Since 2007, we have been a vibrant and active part of Main Street, Picton, with a full stable of talented artists in a variety of art media: paintings, glass, sculpture, ceramics, fibre, wood and metal, jewelry, photography, and mixed media.

We would like to thank all the friends, collectors, and supporters for their ongoing support of Arts on Main Gallery and its talented local artists over the past years. We hope that you will continue to follow us as we offer the best in County art for all to enjoy and purchase.
