Roots & Branches: A History of the United Church in North Marysburgh in Our Own Words

Cressy Glenora United Church

History & heritage, Family friendly

Roots and Branches bring history to life in a community-inspired, collected and oral history of the United Church in North Marysburgh in PEC, from the 1700s to today. This is an event and an experience in two parts, not to be missed.

First, in Burley Hall (our log cabin community space) you'll find engaging displays of original artefacts, then-and-now photographs, fascinating original books and newspaper clippings about the people and times past, historic maps, and more, pertaining to the ancestral churches of the original township of North Marysburgh. We collected this history by visiting historic sites, scanning local archives and through community collaboration. Enjoy coffee, tea and light refreshments. Small coffee tables will be set up for browsing historic clippings and photographs.

Second, we've prepared a self-guided tour of our historic chapel next door. The small, simple church, built in 1877, is officially a Prince Edward County Designated Heritage Building. Inside you'll find a self-guided tour pointing out subtle, charming and fascinating features of the space and its history. You'll hear recordings of local historians telling their stories and memories of the churches of North Marysburgh in their own words. Interwoven with these recordings, old-time hymns will fill the sanctuary with sacred melodies. Guests are welcome to light a candle and stay for a moment of quiet prayer or contemplation.

Light refreshments will be available. This event is free to attend and there is no registration required. Drop in anytime between 12-4pm!
