From Wellington Foundry to Lakeside Retreat: The Life and Times of 24 Wharf Street

The Drake Devonshire

History & heritage

Join Ernie Margetson as he dives into the past of the building now known as The Drake Devonshire.

Learn about the Devonshire's origins as an iron foundry, its connections to a number of high-profile Wellingtonians, and how modifications made throughout the 20th century led to its transformation into the incredibly popular inn and restaurant it is today.

This event, which is sponsored by the Wellington Community Association, is free to attend. The Drake's 'happy hour' menu will be available during the presentation.

Ernie Margetson has long held a keen interest in local heritage and building architecture combined with an understanding of sense of place and context in interpreting County landscapes and sites. He was educated in Engineering and Architecture and has also pursued a passion for lifelong learning and active citizenship.
