Portraiture Workshop with D. Ahsén:nase Douglas

We are thrilled to announce that contemporary figurative painter, D. Ahsén:nase Douglas, will be leading a 3-day Portraiture Workshop at Macaulay House this August! Participants will choose their own subject, and create a piece (at least to the alla prima stage) with instruction from a skilled portrait artist.
On Friday, August 8th, D. Ahsén:nase Douglas will demonstrate his technique, while participants enjoy delicious refreshments, meet with each other, and ask questions of the artist.
On Saturday, August 9th, participants will spend a full day adding the ground and shadows to a blank canvas, before bringing their portrait to the alla prima stage.
On Sunday, August 10th, participants can add further touches to their piece, bringing it closer to completion. Coffee and refreshments will be provided at the end of the workshop, allowing time for discussion, final questions and goodbyes.
This workshop is recommended for intermediate painters with experience working with oil paints. The cost for the workshop is $595, which includes instruction and refreshments. A list of required materials (not included) will be provided in advance.

D. Ahsén:nase Douglas, is a "Contemporary Figurative" oil painter and educator. His artwork is said to “capture the essence of human experience and evoke subtle emotions in the viewer.” His paintings focus on capturing the fundamental nature of the human form and emotive expression within the realms of portraiture and the narrative context. Known for their profound and evocative nature, his paintings showcase insight into the complexities of human existence.
Although he is self-taught, Douglas has a solid foundation in art history and visual design. His expertise in these areas enhances the depth and meaning of his artwork.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Douglas serves as an Indigenous Artist in Residence with the York Region District School Board and an Educational Partner with the Toronto District School Board. Through these roles, he has the privilege of sharing his art, culture, and stories with students of all ages, enriching their understanding of Indigenous heritage.
