Rug Hooking in the Parlour

Macaulay House

Education, History & heritage

Join us in the cozy Parlour at Macaulay House and try your hand at traditional Rug Hooking. We will be working on an owl pattern, hand drawn on linen and inspired by a beloved hooked rug from the County Museums' collection. Using wool strips you will learn the basics of rug hooking through group demonstrations and one-on-one guidance.

With a background in Craft & Design, Bear Epp has worked in the creative industry for over three decades as an artist, arts programmer, teacher, creative director, and is co-curator of "Gather in the County" - a new modern textile market in Picton, ON. She has exhibited her work in Canada and internationally and is dedicated to building community through creative exchange.

Bear draws inspiration from her Mennonite heritage and lived experience when creating her own contemporary hand hooked rugs in her home studio in Cherry Valley, ON.

Workshop fee is $160. All materials are included to complete an 8" X 8" finished trivet. Hoops and hooks are provided during the workshop only.
