South Shore Joint Initiative is a volunteer-run, non-profit, registered Canadian charity with a mission to educate and advocate for the protection, preservation and restoration of South Shore lands and waters in Prince Edward County, where together, biodiversity and people thrive.

Since 2018, South Shore Joint Initiative has led local efforts for the permanent protection and preservation of South Shore lands and waters. The organization hosts regular South Shore Strolls and encourages enjoyment of these public lands through initiatives such as a new South Shore Eco-Footpath.

Cultural and built heritage is another focus of SSJI, which manages the restoration of the heritage-designated Hudgin Log House. Once completed, it will become a unique Field Centre where students, scientists, researchers and the public will be able to deepen their understanding of the South Shore’s incredible biodiversity and history.

South Shore Joint Initiative is also committed to Biodiversity Protection through several projects, including the creation of the Species at Risk Guide, participating in Biolitzes, Wild Thing education program and the newest addition on the iNaturalist platform, titled “Biodiversity of Prince Edward County’s ‘South Shore.’’
